Adelaide Food Central was invited to Le Souk to once again savour the unique tastes and flavours of Algerian cuisine. All drinks and food were provided free of charge.
The Central Markets has always been a bit of an international food hub with so many different cuisines right at your fingertips. In the form of a stall, Le Souk serves up an interesting selection of breakfast and lunch offerings. Some dishes to note are their Chakchouka, the Merguez Sausage and their perfectly made Couscous.
To start off proceedings, I had some of their Fresh Mint Tea with Toasted Pine Nuts. The fresh minty flavour of the tea is refreshing and it’s pleasant aroma is something to be savoured. The inclusion of pine nuts adds a bit of earthiness to the tea as well as a crunchy texture.
Today, I had the Merguez Sausage which is an Algerian classic. It comes with house-made Merguez spicy sausages, eggs, spinach and mushrooms. The sausages are well spiced and leaner than your typical variety. The mushrooms are and spinach were cooked until soft and delicate, and the eggs were a sunny side up. The sumac sauce was tart and made the dish well balanced.
As always, the staff were friendly and the service was very good. The quality of the food is of a high standard, and as people of Adelaide, we should consider ourselves lucky that we have access to a variety of cuisines right at our doorstep.
Le Souk is one of my dining destinations in the Central Markets, and if you haven’t done so by now, they’re well worth a visit!
