Just like the Adelaide CBD, North Adelaide has it’s fair share of pubs. One of those pubs in North Adelaide is The Wellington Hotel. This place boasts 20 taps of beer and cider, and an all day food menu. Their food offerings here are a combination of tapas, burgers, grilled meats and traditional pub fare.

As you enter the pub, the door to the left leads to the gaming facilities, while the door to the right leads to the bar and dining area. The space has been well designed to maximise the amount of natural light flowing in.

For dinner, I ordered The Welly Burger which contains lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon, caramelised onion, smoked paprika aioli and tomato relish. The meal came out after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented.
My first impression of the burger was that it was small, particularly due to the smaller bun diameter, however, it did have good height. The beef patty was well marinated and juicy, and the flavour of herbs was quite prominent. I thought the bacon could have been a bit more crispier or alternatively, have the fat trimmed off. It did have a nice saltiness which was well balanced by the sweetness of the caramelised onion and tomato relish. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, while the tomato was ripe and juicy. The bun was a bit stodgy but firm enough to hold all the ingredients. The meal came with a side of fries which were nice and crunchy, and adequately salted.

There’s nothing worse than getting served by a staff member who acts like they don’t like working there. That’s the reception that I received when ordering my meal. The Welly Burger would normally cost $19, but on Wednesdays, it’s $15 and comes with a beer, cider or soft drink. Tapas dishes start at $14, burgers $16.50, mains $17 and something from the grill $27.
The burger was fairly average in my opinion and so was the service.
