Ambient is perfectly located on Moseley Square and is only metres away from Glenelg Jetty. Open practically from morning till night everyday, the location alone is good enough to give this place a steady turnover of customers. The decor is modern and funky with bold red walls and stylish polished concrete floors. Barrels and bamboo trees are cleverly used as dividers to separate the more casual dining space at the front from the more intimate dining area at the rear.

Tonight, we ordered the Smoked BBQ Chicken. All the pizzas are 12 inches in size and are cooked in a wood oven. The pizza was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented. The chicken was tender and succulent, and you could taste subtle hints of smokiness in each bite. Some portions of the chicken had the skin left on, which would have been fine had it been crispy. The potato was soft and delicate, but tasted a bit bland. The broccolini was crisp and well cooked, while the Spanish onion was raw with a noticeable natural sweetness. The mozzarella was sparse and so was the bourbon BBQ sauce. The crust was nice and thin with an even consistency throughout.

The staff were friendly and the service was above average. The atmosphere was relaxed, however the pricing is higher than normal. Our pizza was $26 but really should have been priced below the $20 mark. It had some nice gourmet ingredients but I felt the combination didn’t really work as it lacked depth.
This place does most things right, although the pizza we had was a bit off the mark.
