Glenelg Jetty Hotel is located in a prime position just off Moseley Square and is right next to the last tram stop. The venue is considerably spacious with seating outside, in the front bar, the main dining area and a function room at the back. The decor is a bit 80’s with old style carpet and daggy but comfortable furnishings. The menu is your typical pub fare with a large component consisting of fried items. The only healthy options that I could see were the salads and the roast of the day.
Tonight, I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. Meals are ordered at the counter, and on this occasion, were ready after a 20 minute wait. The dining area has a seperate “all you can eat” salad bar which is what most good places should offer. The meal itself was nice in presentation, although you could tell the schnitzel was over cooked. The schnitzel was a bit small in both thickness and diameter. The Napoletana sauce was a bit bland but had appropriate coverage over the chicken. The amount of mozzarella topping was generous, although it could have spent a bit more time browning under the grill. The chips were thin and beer battered, providing a nice crunchy exterior and a fluffy soft inside.
A friend sitting next to me also experienced an over cooked dry schnitzel. Other than that, the others were quite content with their meals.
The staff were friendly if you were able to grab their attention. The service was a bit slow at times, but I appreciate it was a busy Saturday night. The atmosphere was relaxed, even though there were other functions happening at the same time. Pricewise, the menu options are on par with other places that offer the same things.
My meal was nothing special, and if it wasn’t for the great company, it would have been a less enjoyable experience.
