On Wednesday night we got to relive the legend that was David Bowie through Rebel, a live circus rock tribute that celebrates the life and career of the first true Rebel himself. We were treated to a performance of intricate costumes, extraordinary tricks and acrobatics, and booming vocals from Stewart Reeve. The show is all about paying homage to an icon that shaped the lives of so many people and is truly one to be seen to be believed.
Rebel is a stunning tribute to the iconic David Bowie, bringing the late singers fantastic stage persona and songs into the genre of fantasy. Beginning the show with its song namesake, Rebel started with electrifying guitar riffs and sound from the band. Stewart Reeve’s voice is almost identical to that of David Bowie himself. There is true attention to detail into not only the out-of-this-world costumes, but to Bowie’s persona and to the character that made him known to the world, Ziggy Stardust.
Accompanying the music was a variety of circus acts and cabaret, from air-defying acrobatics to literal fire. We were left amazed at the sheer talent from the performers and musicians, who brought their skills to the stage with what looked like effortless ease. The show was a lot of fun for everyone, for the Bowie die-hard fans, the newbie fans and the people who had hardly heard of him (if that is even possible!). It was great to see fans of all ages coming together and enjoying the show. As a huge fan of Bowie myself, I was honoured to finally hear my favourite songs played live. We highly recommend this show for a fantastic night out!
Rebel is playing at Gluttony for the whole of the Adelaide Fringe. To experience Rebel in all its glory, you can book tickets here
