Hold on to your sombreros, Adelaide. Guzman Y Gomez has opened up another store in Adelaide, making authentic Mexican even more accessible.
After opening their first South Australian restaurant in October last year, the Mexican food empire has opened a new venue along the foodie-haven stretch of Adelaide, Gouger Street.
If you’re not yet acquainted with the Mexican Taquería, it features all of the classic dishes including nachos, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, churros, margaritas, and Latin lemonade.
A few favourite menu items include the sizable (and delicious) enchilada and the Cali Burrito, both of which can be made however you like it. Meals can be customised with whichever kind of meat and salsa you like, and the restaurant also caters to the gluten free, dairy free, and vegan taco lovers among us.
So, what sets it apart from the other quick eats on offer in the CBD?
Well, there’s a sense of care at Guzman Y Gomez that you rarely find in a fast food joint. The rice is white and fluffy, the tortillas are fresh and soft, and the churros are piping hot.
Each morning, the chefs make the guacamole from scratch by opening and mashing the avocados by hand. Your burrito doesn’t feel like it was slapped together in a lunchtime rush; it feels like someone has crafted it over time with a family recipe.
Despite being, essentially, a fast food chain, Guzman Y Gomez doesn’t cut corners. They don’t believe in microwaves and their meats are all natural and locally grown. All of those careful decisions pay off when you tuck into a hot, fresh burrito with smoky chipotle salsa.
Guzman Y Gomez prides itself on being “Australia’s most authentic Mexican retail chain”, and was founded by Robert Hazan in 2006. Hazan grew up n the USA eating genuine Mexican food, but when he moved to Australia he found that there was a gap in the Australian market for affordable, authentic Mexican.
