SMOCK is a new creative space run by artists, diminishing the lines between gallery, museum and theater. The art space is located at the GU Filmhouse on Hindley Street and launched through Renew Adelaide, which connects creative entrepreneurs with property owners through a rent-free, rolling lease model that allows emerging businesses to trial their concept and at the same time bring revitalisation to a buiding or space.
The first exhibition launched on Friday was The Bait Fridge, what can only be described as raw, hyper-colourful display of still and moving mixed medias within a communal area. There was definitely a lot to keep us distracted, with a visual projection of costumes, masked skateboarders whizzing to and fro, walls of the inside area covered in a bright theme of paint strokes and even a band playing onsite.
SMOCK will serve as a creative platform for those wanting to create a live art atmosphere, and we can only wait around to see how the space will be transformed through different perspectives.
