Today Adelaide Food Central was invited to sample the new additions to Lord of The Fries menu. This included the HSP Sub and Halal Snack Pack. If you’re like myself before eating at Lord of the Fries, you may not know that they are a vegan and vegetarian fast food joint. Established in 2004, they began as a mobile chip van in Melbourne. They now specialise in tasty ethical eats, namely burgers and hotdogs and of course as their name suggests, fries.
Lord of the Fries caters to not only vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements but also gluten free, Kosher and Halal. Their produce is locally sourced but their menu is inspired by international flavours. It boasts a variety of fries including shoestring, chunky, classic and sweet potato and their sauce selection comprises of flavours from all around the world including Belgian, Parisian, Indian and East LA just to name a few.
Pictured above is the HSP Sub. This involves a soft bun with fries, veg ‘beef’ strips, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sriracha, BBQ sauce and hummus inside. I was surprised to find that the veg beef strips well resembled the taste of meat. While the consistency may be different, if I didn’t know what I was eating I would have assumed it was meat. The fresh veggies added a sweet, crisp texture and the garlic hummus was to die for. While we had cheese on our sub, a vegan option is also offered.
Following that was the Halal Snack Pack. This came in the form of what Adelaidians would know as an AB. Veg beef strips, cheese, sriracha, garlic hummus and BBQ sauce atop classic fries. This was surprisingly spicier than expected but the cool hummus cut through the spice nicely, creating a delicious flavour sensation.
We couldn’t leave without trying their famous fries so we had the shoestring fries with Mexican sauce and chunky fries with French Canadian topping. They didn’t disappoint!
If you’re vegan, vegetarian or just like trying new things, this restaurant is highly recommended. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Lord of the Fries will satisfy your fast food cravings at any time. These two items are available for a limited time only so get in quick to have a try!
