There’s nothing better than spending a gorgeous day in a wine region. This week Adelaide Food Central was invited to the Doc Adams cellar door where we spent the afternoon tasting their incredible wine selection and then tucked into a gourmet platter while seated on the verandah overlooking McLaren Vale’s rolling hills and vineyards. Lucky us!
Having only opened 6 weeks ago the new Doc Adams cellar door is easily going to cement itself as one of McLaren Vale’s top destinations. Their stunning cellar door is a welcoming as it is stylish. Instead of the typical tasting held around a central bar area Doc Adams have created a tasting area of 4 small tables surrounded by stools which creates a more intimate wine tasting experience. It allows the friendly and knowledgeable staff to maximise their attention to tasters as they work their way through the impressive selection of wines on offer. Having an initial focus on Shiraz, Doc Adams has steadily increased its portfolio to include all the expected varietals. Most wines are priced between $20 and $35 per bottle making them affordable and great value for money.
Looking for a great spot for lunch? Doc Adams brings a unique flair to their food too with their select your own platters. Choose from an array of breads, crackers and dips. Add your choice of cheese, sliced meat, perhaps some dried fruit and pate. Hate blue cheese? Leave it out. Obsessed with prosciutto? Throw an extra pack in. It’s like the ultimate gourmet pick’n’mix. Hand your selection to the staff and they will arrange it into your perfect, tailor made platter. With a focus on local ingredients and suppliers all tastes are catered for and there is plenty of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian produce available. Add a glass (or bottle) of wine or even an espresso martini and you’ve got yourself a perfect afternoon.
