In Adelaide, pizza bars are just as common as churches; there’s at least one in every suburb. In the beachside suburb of Brighton, they’re very popular as there are five within close proximity to each other. One place of note is Gorilla Pizza which has been around for close to a decade. The pizzas are categorised into traditional and gourmet with a total of 27 pizzas on the menu. Pizzas are available in three sizes (large, family and party) with majority available as a vegan option.
To start off with, we tried some of their Cheesy Garlic Bread. A roll cut in half and smothered with buttery garlic is topped with a generous layer of gooey cheese that is lightly browned to perfection. Anything that is loaded with garlic and cheese is great in our books. The bread is nice and crusty, each bite is to be savoured.
The pizza we had was the Supreme. It’s generously loaded with toppings which is what we like to see. There are high quality cured meats and fresh locally sourced vegetables on this beautiful pizza, all held together by plenty of stringy mozzarella cheese. The saltiness from the pepperoni, salami and anchovies are balanced by the natural sweetness of the onion, capsicum and pineapple. The base is a classic crust style and will certainly fill you up.
Down at Brighton, there’s a lot of competition for the pizza dollar. Gorilla Pizza have an extensive range of pizzas available with vegan pricing for many of the options. All the ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, and more importantly, the pizzas taste great. The pizza bar is primarily take away, but there are seating options available if you want to eat your pizza straight away. With fast and friendly service, this place ticks the boxes when it comes to great pizza.
