It’s been a bit under two years since the first Schnithouse opened on Rundle Street in the city. Expanding on their success, they’ve now opened another store on The Parade. Like their first store, the schnitzel are available in all your common proteins and are available fried or crumbed. There are 8 different sauces to choose from or you can select from one of 20 gourmet varieties. If you’re not feeling like schnitzel, there are pizzas, burgers, wraps, salads and desserts to choose from.
Today, I ordered the Fried Chicken AB Schnit which is topped with tzatziki, sweet chilli and tomato sauce. The dish came out after a 10 minute wait and had average presentation. The schnitzel was lightly crumbed and fried to a lovely golden brown. The chicken was moist and tender, and probably one of the best chicken schnitzels I’ve ever had. The tzatziki sauce had a nice thick consistency with good proportions of garlic and yoghurt. The chips were of a medium cut, and could have been fried a bit longer. The salad was fresh and crisp, but could have done with more vinaigrette dressing.
The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. Unlike the Rundle Street store, there is plenty of room at this place, although the tables look roughly the same size. The atmosphere was relaxed with a steady stream of customers walking in and out. They currently have a $9.90 schnitzel opening special until mid-month which is a bargain compared to the normal prices.
Australia seems to have a love affair with the schnitzel, so it’s no surprise we see another Schnithouse store opening in the suburbs.
