People are spoilt for choice when it comes to Italian cafes down The Parade. The latest one to open its doors is Sfizio Cucina e Bar. “Sfizio” is a slang word in Italian with many different meanings. In this particular case, we were told that it meant “to crave”, and that’s exactly what we did, especially with the wonderful aromas of Italian food wafting throughout the premises. The offerings are extensive with starters, burgers, focaccias, baguettes, pizzas, pasta, risottos, salads and mains. There’s so much choice, it’s guaranteed there is something for everyone.
We started with the Ortolana Risotto; carnaroli rice cooked and reduced with oven roasted pumpkin, garden green peas, spinach and parmesan cheese. The carnaroli rice is a medium grained rice with a high starch content that is grown in northern Italy. The rice was soft and firm, and the flavours from the stock were well infused. A medley of vegetables were mixed into the risotto with our favourite being the soft, sweet, delicate pumpkin. Loads of parmesan cheese was thrown into the mix making it sharp in flavour and gooey in texture.
Next was their signature dish, the Spaghetti Marinara. Loaded with mussels, king prawns, scallops and fish fillets, you could see and taste the flavours of the ocean. The tomato and fish broth was light and really allowed the natural flavours of the seafood to shine through. Combined with the perfectly cooked spaghetti, each bite of this dish was a real treat.
There’s a lot to like about Sfizio Cucina e Bar; the warm and welcoming staff, the fast and friendly service, the modern and spacious surrounds, and of course the delicious food. The venue itself holds 200 people and while we were there, there was a steady stream of customers. That’s no surprise considering this place ticks a lot of the boxes.
Sfizio is located on the corner of Osmond Terrace and The Parade, and is open everyday from 7:30am-11:30pm.
