If we can take anything from the past few years, it’s that Adelaide’s bar scene is continuing to flourish, and quickly. New, quirky bars are popping up all over the CBD.
Friday night was not your typical night as it was the launch party for the new bar, Big Window. Located on Hindley Street, Big Window is the newest, coolest kid on the block.
The minimalist signage of the bar gives it a hidden, underground vibe but is contrasted beautifully with a large pink neon sign at the front entrance.
After walking inside, you are greeted with a quirky bar, filled with all of your house favourite liquors, wines and beers as well as an array of well-crafted cocktails. After ordering an amaretto sour, I was pleasantly surprised and it gave me the courage I needed to make my way to the dance floor.
There is a small, intimate area designated for sitting, before walking up wooden paneled stairs onto the dance floor. Bright neon signs are placed all over the bar, from the ceiling to the walls. The bright reds, pinks and yellow hues glow with the exposed brick wall layout. One can only feel like they are in an abandoned warehouse turned funky 70’s club.
Owner of the bar and music artist, Matthew Khabbaz says
“Big Window is a unique space. The idea was to create a space that Adelaide craves, bringing like-minded music lovers together for more than just a party; for an experience.”
Not only is Big Window a bar, but it also houses a music studio downstairs.
“There is no specific music genre for the studio, its purpose is to bring national and international artists through a world class studio.”
After Friday nights charades, endless dancing and cocktail drinking, Big Window is undoubtedly a space to watch. Make sure to check it out but get in early because the lines out the door are just proof of how popular this great bar is!
