Bank Street Social – Barrel Aged Cocktail Co. & The Loft

Bank Street Social has been around for over 12 months now and is still one of the hippest and coolest bars in Adelaide. With prohibition style decor, the underground bar features vintage lighting, exposed brickwork and chesterfield booths. The place is all very industrial and quite a unique space in Adelaide. Adelaide Food Central was invited last night to sample cocktails from “The Bank Street Barrel Aged Cocktail Co.”, as well as check out the new private space called The Loft.

The 3 cocktails that we had were the Manhattan, Australian Negroni and the Martinez. Each of these cocktails contained vermouth that has been aged a minimum of 6 weeks in Barossa made oak barrels. Every cocktail was smooth and complex with imbued notes of vanilla and spice.

If you’re going to spend the evening at a bar, you’re bound to get a bit peckish at some point. That’s why Bank Street Social have their own pizza bar. There are 4 types of pizza that have inspired flavours from the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale and the Riverland. The pizzas are freshly made, stone cooked and use locally sourced ingredients only from South Australia’s best gourmet food producers. The bases were nice and thin, and not too oily. Toppings were generous and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients.

Right after cocktails and pizza, the group headed up to The Loft, an upstairs private space that caters for groups of up to 20. Cosy and intimate, the seating is a combination of a curved booth and stools. The area has it’s own balcony that overlooks the bar so you’re not missing out on any of the action. On the night we were treated to some complimentary Vinteloper wines which made the night all the more enjoyable.

What a fantastic night! We were treated to a selection of classic cocktails, delicious pizzas and amazing Vinteloper wines in a private setting. By the time we left, it was a full house and the DJ was pumping out some of the latest tunes. It’s no wonder Bank Street Social has been named The Advertiser’s best small bar of the year for 2015.

Adelaide Food Central would like to thank everyone at Bank Street Social for their kind hospitality. A great night was had by all.
