Mercato has been a family owned business since the 70’s and aims to present local and Italian produce which is carefully sourced and selected to the public. Bar Mercato is the new extension to this spacious continental deli and aims to offer an authentic Italian bar experience. Open daily for breakfast and lunch, Bar Mercato will feature baked Italian Pastries, authentic Pizzas and Panini, as well as Coffee and fresh crusty Bread.
Aperitivio is a traditional way that Italians like to wind down after work, with drinks and appetisers or Stuzzichini offered as a way to tie you over until dinnertime. Adelaide Food Central were lucky enough to sample this at Bar Mercato, with guests offered a drink upon arrival and an array of Stuzzichini and Pizza throughout the night. Drinks included wine, beer and the Italian Spritz; a wine-based cocktail commonly served in Northeast Italy with Prosecco Wine and a dash of bitter liqueur.
Antipasto is definitely a favourite of mine and any meal which includes Antipasto is sure to be a special one in my family. Tonight we sampled a selection of Cured Meats, Cheeses, Breads, and Olives. Their platters were beautifully presented and the quality and freshness of the produce was excellent.
Stuzzichini are a selection of snacks or side dishes served in bars around Italy. Tonight we sampled the Potato Croquettes, Meat filled Olives, which are crumbed and fried, Arancini and Eggplant Parmigiano. The Potato Croquettes were crunchy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside with a beautiful Potato flavour. The Arancini was similarly texturally delicious, with a delectable cheesy centre. Eggplant Parmigiano is always a favourite of mine and this appetiser rendition was perfectly seasoned with a great amount of cheese and sauce to satisfy anyone.
Bar Mercato’s Pizza is cooked using a traditional recipe and the dough is left for 72 hours to proof, which delivers a lighter more fluffier dough. This is evident when you taste these pizzas. They are so light with a crunchy base and are simply amazing! They are available to buy per slice, half or whole pizza which make for a great lunch time or snack option.
Mercato also offer cooking schools, wine education, product demonstrations and more to satisfy all of your Italian culinary needs! Italian food is the best cuisine in the world in my humble opinion and Mercato do a great job of proving my point. They celebrate all things Italian and the new Bar Mercato is the perfect place for an authentic Italian food experience right here in Adelaide.
