My last visit to Maid Mice was when they first opened about 9 months ago. I was impressed with their food then as I was tonight. As part of a Zomato meetup, Adelaide Food Central, along with other bloggers, were invited to sample some more of their dishes. All food and drink were provided free of charge.
First up was the Salmon Ceviche which is slices of salmon sashimi dressed with light soy and citrus dressing, sprinkled with Asian herbs and finished off with a wasabi mayonnaise. This is probably the best salmon dish I’ve ever had. The salmon had a lovely smooth, silky texture. There was a range of contrasting flavours that made the dish work; the subtle saltiness of the soy, the minty Asian herbs and the sweet tangy mayonnaise. This is a dish I’d always come back for.
The FOB Basket consisted of Spring Rolls, Wontons and Nem Sticks. The Spring Rolls had a lovely crisp pastry that contained a moist, well seasoned filling that was properly cooked through. The Wontons were pretty much the same except with a more crunchier skin. The Nem Sticks were my favourite. The meat was tender, succulent and well seasoned. Some restaurants like to include bits of fat inside the meat, but not this place.
The Claypot reminded me of a Korean bibimbap, particularly the way all the ingredients were mixed with the egg. The claypot contained pork sausage, chicken, prawns, veggies on soy infused rice and topped with an egg yolk. The soy was really well infused into all the elements of the dish. It was very hearty and rustic.
The last dish of the night and the dessert was the Red Bean Creme Brulee. The caramelised topping wasn’t too thick and was broken easily with a spoon. Instead of subtly sweet custard, the filling was more thick red bean paste which had a coarse texture. A bit unusual in taste at first, but you get used to it.
The team at Maid Mice have certainly maintained their high standards since my last visit. Each dish was really well executed and I look forward to visiting this place more often. I would like to thank the staff at Maid Mice as well as Zomato for organising another successful event.
