Last Friday night, Mollydooker Wines invited us to their pop-up wine bar to launch their newest sparkling: Girl On The Go. Mollydooker Wines is a family business run by Sarah and Sparky and their two kids, Holly and Luke. The name Mollydooker comes from Aussie slang meaning left-hander, as Sarah and Sparky are one of the few left-handed wife and husband winemaking teams in the world.
The event was held at the Publisher’s Arthouse, a beautiful open warehouse with its walls lined with grafitti, making for a great NYC atmosphere. At the beginning of the event we were treated to a beautiful string quartet, followed by DJ Leah Mencel.
Guests sampled two wines from the Mollydooker range: Girl On The Go and Miss Molly. Girl On The Go is a beautiful sparkling Verdelho. This sophisticated sparkling delivers hints of pineapple and citrus nectar, yet is not at all overpowering. Miss Molly is a classic bubbly red wine. It has a gorgeous velvety sensation to it, which can also be seen in many other Mollydooker wines such as The Boxer.
To compliment the wine was a selection of food by Daniel Brooks, of the Publishers Hotel.
The Tasting Board was a simple combination of crackers, cheese olives and cured meat, proving a perfect match for both of the sampled Mollydooker wines.
The Pulled Chicken Burger with Fries was a flavoursome dish. The shredded chicken was well seasoned and juicy, contrasting well with the soft and spongy bun. The slaw was tangy in flavor and gave a great crunch, as did the fries, which were crisp, with just the right amount of seasoning.
The Duck Arancini balls had a dark brown crumbed exterior. The rice filling was soft and moist and had prominent notes of earthy sage. A great dish to have with a glass of Miss Molly!
The Calamari was by far the best dish! Lightly crumbed and soft and delicate in flavour, this was a great classic dish that always goes down with a glass of wine in hand.
