Redback Chargrill

Redback Chargrill is a takeaway stall located in the main food court of Westfield Marion. As their name suggests, their offerings include a selection of chargrilled meats with proteins such as chicken, beef and pork available in various forms. They also have 4 types of Vietnamese Rolls which is what I was really interested in.

When ordering, I noticed that the Roast Pork Vietnamese Roll was not available so I reluctantly settled for the BBQ Pork Vietnamese Roll. Made fresh on the spot, it was good to see them layer the roll with egg mayonnaise and pate. The BBQ Pork was actually well made. It consisted of lean morsels of marinated pork with the correct flavour. The coriander was fresh and the cucumber added a crunchy texture. The pickles were sweet and tangy, and the chilli added a nice kick. Unfortunately, I didn’t think the BBQ Pork went well with the traditional Vietnamese roll ingredients. The other disappointment was the bread roll. It was too soft and spongy, and not crusty as it should be.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The cost of the BBQ Pork Vietnamese Roll was $7.90 which is the most I’ve ever paid. Knowing that they’d be paying exorbitant rents, I can understand why’d they be charging that much. All the elements of a good Vietnamese Roll were there. I just felt they should have a Roast Pork option and more crustier bread.
