In search for the best Vietnamese Roll in Adelaide, I come across Mai’s Lunch Bar, located close to the Entertainment Centre. For a small take away store, they certainly have a decent menu selection. Apart from their 6 types of Vietnamese rolls, they have a range of authentic Vietnamese dishes, cold rolls, vermicelli noodle dishes and vegetarian options.

For lunch, I ordered the Roast Pork Vietnamese Roll. The roast pork was made with a Chinese barbecue sauce marinade and was slightly on the sweeter side. The pork skin was perfectly crunchy and the skin to meat ratio was just right. The coriander was fresh and the cucumber added a nice crunchy texture. The pickled carrots were sweet and tangy, and the chilli created some real excitement. The roll was nice and crusty, and held all the ingredients in well.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed, even with the busy lunch hour rush. Everything is appropriately priced here with no dish over $10. My Roast Pork Roll was $5.50 which is cheap by today’s standards. The barbecue marinade used on their Roast Pork was a slight deviation to a traditional Vietnamese Roast Pork Roll, but I was pleasantly surprised it tasted just as good.
