Ever since the Bon Jing Filipino food truck, Adelaide is seeing a steady stream of Filo offerings in the form of barbecue and street food. The latest place to open it’s doors is Kalye, which is located down The Parade in the Norwood cafe precinct. The menu is simple with small dishes and sweets, and Filipino barbecue options that are available in individual pieces or as a meal.
SignageThe decor reminds me of the interior of an old tin shed, particularly with the wooden communal table and the galvanised iron sheeting. The space is not particularly large with seating for approximately 20 people.
InsideFor lunch, I had the Inasal which is chargrilled marinated chicken thigh. The dish took 30 minutes to arrive and was presented in a take away cardboard container. Compared to the same dish I’ve had at other places, the presentation was basic and the portion size was conservative. The star of the show was the chicken, which was well marinated with lovely char grilled flavours. Unfortunately, the chicken wasn’t properly cooked with some of the flesh still raw and bleeding.
InasalThe staff were friendly and the service was average. The atmosphere was relaxed, but partly because there was only one other customer. The pricing is almost the same as what you’d pay at a food truck. Small snacks start from $4, while the meals go all the way up to $15. The cost of the Inasal was $13 which I thought was over priced for what you got. Combine that with the slow service and undercooked chicken, and the whole experience wasn’t particularly great.
I’m hoping that other people that visit this place have a much better experience than what I did.
I agree and the place was little bit small
