Some people who read this blog have commented on why I even bother reviewing a Chicken or Fish & Chip shop. Top fish and chip shops such as Sotos and Stunned Mullet have been reviewed so it’s only fair to check out what other places have to offer. In this case, when it comes to cooking fish and chips, it all comes down to the quality of the ingredients and the execution. If you have fish and chips often enough, you’ll begin to notice the difference.
Seaview Chicken and Fish is not your typical chicken or fish and chip shop. The interior is modern with the trendy white tiling across the front counter area, the communal bench and seating along the window.
For lunch, I ordered the Butterfish and Chips. The meal was ready after a 10 minute wait and was fresh out of the deep fryer. Prior to ordering, I had told the person behind the counter that I wished to dine there. While they don’t serve food on plates, they were clever enough not to wrap up the fish and chips.
The batter on the fish was crispy, even coloured and covered the entire fish. It wasn’t too greasy and there weren’t any carbon particles present. The quality of the butterfish was exceptional. The flesh was firm and flaky, and really succulent. It was free of bones and a lovely white colour. The chips were the thick processed variety but they were well cooked. They were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and cooked right through. The chicken salt applied to the chips was just right.
The staff were really friendly and helpful, and it was good to see a steady stream of customers. The cost of the meal was $9.20 which is really typical of any fish and chip shop. The quality of the ingredients and the execution were a real standout at this place, and I would go as far as to say they make really good fish and chips.
