Abrakebabra is a quaint Turkish cafe located in a small shopping complex on the corner of Diagonal and Oaklands Roads. This place serves up street food favourites such as gozleme, kebabs, burgers, dips and sweets.

The decor is modern and well presented with low hanging light fittings and cafe style tables and chairs. There’s seating for just over a dozen people but I had no problems getting one during my lunch break. It’s corner position allows plenty of natural light to flow through making the place feel light and airy.

For lunch, I had the Lamb Burger which arrived at my table 10 minutes after ordering. The lamb used was a fresh batch of marinated meat that was thrown onto the grill. The meat was lean, tender and succulent, and I was surprised how generous the amount was. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, while the garlic sauce was a little watery and conservatively applied. The Turkish bread was nice and firm, and held all the ingredients in well.

There was a bit of a communication problem during the ordering as the partner of the owner didn’t have a full grasp of English. Other than that, the food arrived at my table rather promptly. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was very reasonable. The cost of the Lamb Burger was $8 which is fairly good considering the quality of the ingredients. The most expensive item on their entire menu is $12 which is an indication of how cheap this place is.
Cheap eats are a hard find these days, particularly ones that don’t skimp on quality. This place ticks the boxes for me.
