It seems to be a trend at the moment for established burger joints to open up additional stores. The first Burger Club store was opened in Mawson Lakes, but since then the store has been franchised and a further two stores have been opened, one in Henley Beach and the other in Kilburn.
For those that are not familiar with Burger Club, customers can select from 16 country or regionally inspired burger fillings. Broken down like a Subway store, a protein is selected, which is a choice of beef, lamb, chicken or veggie.
The Henley Beach store is a bit smaller than the one at Mawson Lakes, but the fit out is modern and well presented. One big advantage of this place are the views of the beach from the dining tables. There are a fair number of seats down the side of the store and a few at the front. The bi-fold doors not only maximise the view, they also allow plenty of natural light to flow through.
For lunch, I ordered the Italian Club with Lamb. The burger consisted of salad, relish, pesto, proscuitto and shaved parmesan cheese. The burger was ready after a 15 minute wait and was nicely presented, although I felt there was more bun than filling.
The lamb patty was a little on the thin side and was over cooked. The meat, although well marinated, was dry. The amount of pesto added was considerably generous and the pine nuts added a lovely crunchy texture. The proscuitto has a subtle saltiness and the parmesan cheese was nice and sharp. The salad was a bit disappointing as I don’t see how a single lettuce leaf constitutes greens.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. While the atmosphere was relaxed, I did question the cleanliness of the place as the table I was sitting at had greasy condiment containers. The cost of the burger was $13.90 which is a fair price. The burger didn’t taste too bad, however, more filling would have made it better.
