Ming’s Palace

Ming’s Palace are renown for the best Peking Duck in Adelaide. My last visit to this restaurant was over a decade ago and it was time to pay this place another visit. If you want to order either the Peking Duck or Fortune Chicken, you’ll need to tell them by the morning of your dinner. For me, I already knew what I was going to have, but if you’re after something else, there are over 90 other dishes to choose from, most of them traditional Chinese fare.

The dining area is one large open space. The white table cloths and cloths over the chairs give this place a feeling of being quite formal.

For dinner, we ordered the 3 course Peking Duck meal. The dishes came out 10 minutes after ordering and were nicely presented.

First up was the Duck Skin served with pancakes, shallots, cucumber and hoisin sauce. The skin was so nice and crispy, it’s the best thing you’ll ever eat. Some of the portions even had duck meat attached to them, and it just made it even better. The crunchy texture of the cucumber and the sweetness of the hoisin dipping sauce are like a match made in heaven.

Next was the Shredded Duck with Noodles. The noodles were nice and firm, while the duck meat was tender and succulent. My only complaint was there wasn’t enough.

The Duck Bone Soup was light and refreshing. A perfect way to cleanse the palate at the end of the 3 course meal.

My friend had the Hot and Sour Soup. She said it wasn’t the best she’s had and nor the worst.

The same friend also had the San Choy Bow. I was told this was tasty and delicious, and up there with the best.

The staff were friendly and the service was very good. Meals arrived promptly and plates were cleared as we finished. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The cost of a whole Peking Duck 3 course meal that was shared between 4 people was $52.80, which works out to $13.20 per person. Not only was it cheap, but the meal was outstanding.

When it comes to Peking Duck, I look no further than this place.
