The Oxford is located right in the heart of O’Connell Street amongst other popular restaurants and cafes. The menu is your fairly typical pub fare with burgers, pizzas, schnitzels and other internationally inspired dishes. They do have daily meal deals during the week as well as a couple that go all week.

As you enter the pub, there’s a bar area located in the centre of the room. There’s bench seating around the bar area, and a more formal dining space to one side. There’s also plenty of seating outside which is perfect for those warm Summer evenings. Located on a nice corner position, there’s plenty of natural light flowing from both its frontages.

For dinner, I ordered the Wagyu Burger. The beef patty was nice and thick, and was the same diameter as the bun. The meat was well marinated but slightly over cooked. The fried egg was also cooked for too long as the yolk was no longer runny. The bacon, on the other hand, could have been fried longer, or alternatively, the fatty portions could have been trimmed off. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the tomato slices were ripe and juicy. The jalapeno jam and chipotle aioli provided nice heat to the burger. The bun was a bit crustier than expected and barely managed to hold all the ingredients in.

My friend ordered the Beef Schnitzel which came with a spicy barbecue sauce. I was told the schnitzel was well cooked, and wasn’t tough and leathery at all.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was average. The cost of the burger was $19.90 which included a glass of beer. While the burger has all the hallmarks of being really good, the execution was a bit of a let down.
