The Bakers of Unley are located in a small shopping complex in the well-to-do suburb of Malvern. Larger than your typical bakery, they offer a range of pies, pasties, sausage rolls, filo pastries, quiches, cakes, sweets and a selection of beverages.

This is a fairly sizable bakery with a long counter area full of their offerings. Customers get the option to dine in with about a dozen seats inside and a few extra more outside. The floor plan of this bakery has a slight forward offset to it’s adjacent neighbour. Apart from the natural light coming in from the west, there’s also a fraction that comes from the northerly direction.

For lunch, I had the Slow Cooked Beef Lepinja with horseradish, sundried tomatoes and spinach. While the ingredients had the hallmarks of being gourmet, the roll was premade and refrigerated. The beef was slightly tough and bland in taste. Some relief was provided by the sweetness of the sundried tomatoes, the pungent intense flavour of the horseradish and the crispy texture of the spinach. The whole roll would have tasted better had it been grilled.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The cost the lepinja was $9.50 which is about the price I’d expect to pay. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have ordered some of their delicious looking sweets instead of a savoury item.
