Ambassadors Hotel

Ambassadors Hotel is located right in the heart of the Adelaide CBD on King William Street. The building has a lot of old world charm about it with some things looking like they are in their original condition. Today, we decided to dine in the bar area which is at the back of the building. The main focal points were the beautiful chandeliers and the warm fireplace. It was a bit dark and gloomy due to lack of natural light, but it still felt pretty cosy.

For lunch, we came for the 2 for 1 Schnitzel deal. I ordered the usual Chicken Schnitzel Parmigiana, while my friend ordered the Chicken Schnitzel with Gravy. The meals arrived 20 minutes after ordering and were nice in presentation. The schnitzel was large in diameter but a bit on the thin side. The chicken was slightly over cooked and you could tell by the firmness of the crumbed coating. The napoletana sauce had a subtle sweetness about it and had appropriate coverage over the schnitzel. On top of the sauce was a layer of ham, followed by a thick layer of mozzarella cheese. The amount of cheese was quite generous, however, it could have been browned more under the grill. The salad was fresh and the vinaigrette dressing wasn’t over applied. The quality of the chips wasn’t great, however, they were well cooked. The chips were battered with a nice crunchy exterior and the inside was soft and fluffy.

My friend had the Chicken Schnitzel with Gravy. She was quite content with her meal and was pleased with the generous amount of gravy provided.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. We were asked how our meals were and plates were cleared as we finished. The atmosphere was relaxed, although there weren’t too many customers here when we were here. The two schnitzels set us back $20 which is fairly good value. Their normal menu prices are fairly average when compared to similar establishments.

Verdict: Not somewhere I would normally go for a meal, but the food is ok.
