It’s not uncommon for overseas franchises to open up in Australia. The latest one to come to our shores is Delimanjoo which is a popular chain that originates from Korea. Both the franchise and the name of their main product is a delicate cake like snack that contains a sweet smooth custard filling. The name itself comes from two words; deli from the English word “delicious” and manjoo from the Korean word for the traditional Chinese snack dim sum.
According to Joanna from Delimanjoo at Westfield West Lakes, this is the first store to open in Australia. The stall is open planned and you can watch the delimanjoo being made in the special patented machines. The store only sells two products; the Delimanjoo and the Deli Pop, which is a popcorn snack.

The size of the Delimanjoo snack is small and about the size of my thumb. Looking at the prices, you could buy 6 of these for $3 which equates to 50 cents a pop. The outside is a delicious golden sponge cake that is filled with a creamy custard that has a thick consistency. It’s not overly sweet so it allows you to eat more.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. I know this snack is very popular overseas, but it’s also very similar a few Chinese sweet snacks you can get in Adelaide’s Chinatown. They’re not too bad, but we’ll have to wait and see how the franchise goes in the Australian market.
