Red Door Bakery – Croydon

I’ve actually never been down Elizabeth Street in Croydon and I wasn’t expecting to see a group of boutique stores and cafes. I must admit it was a pleasant surprise.

Having been to the Red Door Bakery in Goodwood, I already had a good idea of what was in store even before I came here. This place is well known for it’s use of butter in their products, particularly the Belgian variety. They also like to use organic and natural ingredients, which is one of the main reasons why their food tastes so good.

For lunch, I had the Organic Hereford Beef Pie. The pie was one of the best I’ve ever had. The meat was braised and so tender, it simply fell apart. The pasty was light and flaky, and it couldn’t be more perfect. I also ordered some of their Chilli Jam. It was sweet and spicy, but very addictive.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed. The pricing is a bit higher than what you would normally expect. The beef pie was $6 and the chilli jam was an extra $1 which I thought was a bit rich. Having said that, it was a very tasty beef pie that was perfectly executed, and possibly worth the extra cost.

Verdict: Their pastries here are awesome!
