Park Lok

Park Lok is a Chinese restaurant located on the more quieter Grote Street. Specialising in Cantonese and Teochew cuisine, this restaurant is rather spacious and can accommodate over 100 people easily. The decor is a mismatch of elegance and poorly concealed clutter. The large chandeliers, the high ceilings and the white table cloths give this place a touch of sophistication, but when you look through the lobster tanks, you see a section of the restaurant that is used as storage. The dividers used to separate some of the dining areas doesn’t work in my opinion, it just makes the place look daggy, particularly when you have high ceilings.

Today, I ordered the Sweet and Sour Crispy Beef. The meal was ready 10 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. The beef was lean and tenderised using soda powder. The serving size was generous and the sweet and sour sauce was well executed. It was a safe dish that I didn’t expect them to get wrong, and they didn’t.

The staff were friendly and the service was above average. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was more than reasonable. Unlike other places that charge the same menu prices for both lunch time and dinner, this place has special lunch time deals with more reasonable pricing. The same price as eating at a food court but you get the restaurant experience.

Definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Chinatown precinct.
