The Nest is a bar, cafe and bistro located in the new Walkerville Village Shopping Centre. The venue is located in a prime corner position with plenty of natural light coming in from the floor to ceiling windows. The place is contemporary and stylish with good use of natural earth colour tones. The large square tiling, the high ceilings and the open cabinetry give this place a homey feel. The area is somewhat spacious with a combined indoor and outdoor seating capacity of about 170.
This place has two menus, one for breakfast and the other for lunch and dinner. As the afternoon menu uses the same prices for both lunch and dinner, I feel the price point is a bit high as a lunch time option. As the Wagyu Burger was recommended, I hesitantly handed over $17 for the privilege of eating it.
The burger arrived 15 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented on a wooden chopping board. The fries came in a mini deep frier which is nothing new these days. The beef patty was juicy and perfectly cooked. The thickness was just right, however the diameter seemed a bit small. The bacon was nice and crispy, and more importantly, it was lean. The slice of cheese was just starting to melt which was a good sight. There was a fair amount of relish hidden under the patty, so much so, it became a bit too sweet. The lettuce, tomato and Spanish onion were crisp, and the dill aioli used had a slight hint of herbs. The bun was fresh and nicely toasted.

The chips were perfectly cooked. They were the nice thick beer battered variety. Crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The amount provided was restricted by the size of the little deep frier container.
The staff were really friendly and the service was above average. I was brought over a glass of water without even asking. The atmosphere was relaxed, but that’s no surprise in this well to do location. As indicated earlier, this place is a bit pricey for lunch, but average for similar types of establishments. Some places think they can charge a premium because wagyu beef is used, but we all know how much the raw patties cost from your local supermarket (not much!). This place does most things right and is probably worth another visit.
