I’m a big fan of sushi that comes on a train, so when I heard Saizen did $3 plates on a Sunday night, I was on the first train there!
Saizen is located on the northern end of O’Connell Street. The decor is traditional with a nice high divider that separates the customers on either side of the train tracks. Too often, I’m facing other customers while eating and I think that detracts from the privacy.
The sushi here is pretty good. The salmon was nice and fresh. The sushi rice was well made with nice individual grains. The seaweed wrapping was of a good quality. With free wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger, you really can’t go wrong.

The service here was excellent. Plates were cleared as you ate and they even brought a glass of water over without me even asking. If there was one criticism of this place, I would say that the train moved too slowly. I’m a fan and will definitely be back!
