Looking down Rundle Street, I really wanted to go somewhere where I hadn’t been before. I also wanted something quick because I had another event to go to. The first option was the nearby sushi bar, but the sushi looked like it had been sitting around all day and they were about to close up. Then I saw the Red Rock Noodle Bar and thought why not?
Red Rock Noodle Bar is a franchise and is located near the beginning of the Western end of Rundle Street. The food here covers pretty much all your Asian cuisines; Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malay, Indonesian and Mongolian. The first thing that strikes me about this place is the open plan design and gorgeous high ceilings. The decor is basic but modern, and the whole place has an industrial warehouse feel about it. This spacious place could easily cater for 75 people with both its indoor and outdoor seating.
Within 5 minutes of entering the place, our order was taken. I was going to have the Pad Thai, but I had already decided that after looking at the menu at the front of the restaurant. The service here is pretty quick and that’s just the way I like it. My meal arrived 10 minutes after ordering and was nicely presented. Not all meals arrived at the same time. There was a 10 minute wait between each meal. I’m guessing there was only one chef.
The Pad Thai was delicious and tasty! The noodles were cooked perfectly. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The amount of bean sprouts was generous giving the dish a crunchy texture. The meat was chicken breast which was perfect for the health conscious. The proportion of meat and vegetables to the noodles was just right. The dish was reddish in colour which is the way it should be, and the addition of fresh chilli was a nice touch.
The staff were friendly and inviting. The atmosphere was relaxed. The meal was quite enjoyable. Undoubtedly, it is a great place to come for a quick meal.
