Lamb Spit BBQ is a little takeaway store located outside the Central Market Plaza food court. The store mainly sells Yiros but also offers other items you would find at a local fish and chip shop. The staff were friendly and the service was good.
Today, I ordered the Lamb and Chicken Yiros Plate. As with most takeaway stores, the meal was quick to prepare. I watched with anticipation as one of the staff carved freshly cooked chicken yiros meat off the spit. The lamb yiros meat on the other hand was carved earlier and was being kept in a warmer. The serving size was very generous. The dish consisted of Greek salad, pita bread and an enormous amount of lamb and chicken. The quantity of meat was reminiscent of an Egyptian pyramid.
The chicken had been cooking on the spit for too long. Some of the chicken was tender and succulent, while other parts were dry and crispy. The chicken was also over salted. The lamb also had been over cooked. While the lamb was lean and well marinated, it was also dry and hard to chew. The garlic sauce was nice and thick. There was plenty of lemon juice in the garlic sauce but not enough garlic itself. The vegetables used in the Greek salad were fresh, however the feta cheese wasn’t the freshest I’ve tasted. The pita bread was heated on the grill and was nice.

I’ve eaten at this store in the past and was put off by the fact that the store attendant handled both the food and money without wearing gloves. Today, the store attendant was wearing gloves, but still handled both the food and money with the gloves on. Ideally, clean gloves should be worn when handling the food and then taken off when handling the money. It’s all about food hygiene which seems to be questionable at this place. With food safety aside, my meal was OK but it could have been a lot better.
