Protein Balls Adelaide – a purveyor of healthy food that tastes as good as it looks. They’re now open every Sunday from 9:30am until 2:30pm, which is perfect if you’re in need of a nutritious recovery brunch after partying too hard the night before. We had a BALL trying out some of their menu items this morning, and with everything being plant-based and free from refined sugar, it was a completely guiltless indulgence. Every dish was packed with flavour and bursting with colour, so it was a feast for our eyes as well as our stomachs. Read on to find out more about their delicious menu items!
Nutella & Strawberry Protein Pancakes
As we ate, one thing we kept saying to each other was “I can’t believe it’s healthy!”. The pancakes themselves were light and velvety, their flavour enhanced by a deliciously guilt-free choc hazelnut spread, fresh strawberries, and roasted hazelnuts, making for a mouth-watering breakfast delicacy.
Peanut Butter & Jelly Protein Pancakes
Featuring all-natural, locally-made peanut butter and layers of fresh raspberry jam, each bite is bursting with nourishment and flavour, housing the perfect balance between creaminess and tartness. The owners, Heba and Nick, make the raspberry jam themselves to ensure that it is free from refined sugar, and the excellent quality is indisputable. This dish is definitely a winner, especially when enjoyed with maple syrup.
Antioxidant Bowl
A refreshing smoothie is always a good breakfast option, and this was no exception. The berry smoothie paired wonderfully with fresh fruit and crunchy granola, providing us with a sweet and satisfying treat.
Snickers Bowl
This is one bowl you can’t go past – the smooth chocolate mousse (which, again, we couldn’t believe was healthy) is delightfully rich, and complemented by crispy coconut chips, cacao nibs, and a homemade raw snickers slice to make it even more decadent. If you have a sweet tooth, then this is the dish for you.
Mini Fruit Tarts
Of course, we couldn’t leave without trying their famous raw desserts. I was thoroughly impressed by the flawlessly-shaped crust on this fruit tart – I never would have guessed that it wasn’t made with any butter or flour! Inside it was a scrumptious cashew filling topped with a smooth cashew glaze, and garnished with a range of fresh fruit that wonderfully balanced the richness of the rest of the tart. This tart tasted every bit as good as it looked, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is on the lookout for a guilt-free dessert.
Raw Donuts
The silky cashew glaze made another appearance in these donuts, but the star of the show was the ‘dough’ part underneath. They’re packed with chocolatey goodness, and the two flavours we sampled – Cinnamon (coconut) Sugar and Cookies & Cream – were super moreish.
Raw Slices
And last but certainly not least: raw vegan Peanut Butter & Jelly and Cookie Dough slices – what more could you want? These are just two of the many raw slices that PBA offers, and I could not recommend them highly enough. My personal favourite was the PB & J, with its vibrant freeze-dried raspberries and crunchy peanuts, in addition to a tasty berry layer underneath. Also, check out how satisfyingly straight those layers are.
So, if you would like to try some of PBA’s delectable protein pancakes, smoothie bowls, or raw desserts, just head down Henley Beach Road in Torrensville. Alternatively, you could also visit one of their 40+ stockists – including Froth and Fodder, The Summit Café, and Tony & Mark’s – if you’re after some raw slices and protein balls.
In addition to the wonderful dishes they currently offer, Protein Balls Adelaide will be expanding their menu in the coming months as it warms up, so keep an eye out for their sorbet bowls!
