For a while, the owner of Yakumi and Glenelg Spices also ran Lucky Vietnamese Roll out of the same store on Jetty Road Glenelg. Expanding on the success of the store, they decided to give Lucky Vietnamese Roll its own physical location in Somerton Park. The store can easily fit over a dozen people and offers a similar menu to what was previously available on Jetty Road.
Today, I ordered the Roast Pork Banh Mi. Egg mayonnaise and pate was liberally applied during the making of the roll. The roast pork was well marinated and there was a good proportion of meat and crunchy skin. The pickled daikon and carrot was sweet and tangy, and the cucumber added a nice crunchy texture. The coriander was fresh and the chilli provided good heat. Even the bread was crusty on this occasion.
The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the prices were average. The cost of the Roast Pork Roll was $8.50 which is about the price you pay these days. Vietnamese street food cafes are popping up all over the place, but this is one of the better ones.
