When I was younger, a bowling centre was just that, a place to come and play ten pin bowling. These places have come a long way since then, particularly Kingpin Bowling, which offers a range of other activities including laser tag and arcade games. Food at bowling centres are known to be fairly basic, but Kingpin Bowling has upped their game by hiring top chefs to offer cafe and pub style meals. Customers can choose from share plates, salads, wraps, burgers, hot dogs, pizzas and toasties. They even have a bar that offers all your classic cocktails and mocktails, so it’s just not the kids that have all the fun.
For lunch, I had the Aloha Burger which comes with a crispy tempura chicken breast patty, smokey bacon, grilled pineapple, cheese, mixed lettuce and a BBQ chipotle mayonnaise. The chicken patty was the same size as the bun, and was juicy and moist inside the thin, crispy coating. The cheese was nicely melted over the patty, and the lettuce was fresh and crisp. The bacon had lovely smokey flavours and its saltiness was balanced by the natural sweetness of the grilled pineapple. The BBQ chipotle mayonnaise was sweet and reminded me of a pasta sauce. The bun was nice and firm, and held all the ingredients in well. The side of fries were of a good quality and cooked to perfection. They were crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the centre, and had the right amount of salt applied.
At Kingpin Bowling Norwood, it’s not just a place dedicated to bowling anymore, it’s a place to come and make a day of. With super friendly and attentive staff, delicious food and drink, and a range of other activities, you won’t need to go anywhere else.
