Cafe Chennai is located north of Adelaide in the trendy suburb of Prospect. As you are about to walk into the restaurant, an old vintage car sits on one side, while the remaining space is designated for outdoor dining. Have no fear, the outdoor area is protected by see through blinds so customers are safe from the elements. Inside the restaurant, there is a private dining room to the left, and to the right, there is the main bar, followed by the main dining area. The menu is fairly extensive with a selection of starters, dosas, thalis and curries on offer.
We started off with the Chicken Tikka. The morsels of chicken were tender and succulent with lovely chargrilled flavours. The blend of yoghurt and tandoori spices were well infused into the meat. We didn’t think it was too spicy but the yoghurt was there for instant relief.
A classic on any Indian menu is the Beef Vindaloo. The curry had the essential flavours of vinegar and tomato, which is what the curry is all about. The morsels of beef were tender and succulent, and the sauce had a nice kick to it. If you want extra hot, the restaurant is happy to oblige.
No meal is complete without dessert and today we had the Mango Kulfi. The ice cream was smooth and creamy with a delicious mango flavour. The sweetness was complemented by the strawberries, while the nuts added a crunchy texture. A perfect way to end the meal.
Cafe Chennai is your go to place for authentic southern Indian cuisine. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and the service is fast and efficient. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, and a great place to go for your curry fix.
