Ever since small bar licences were introduced in Adelaide, we’ve seen the city flourish and become more vibrant. Buildings that were once disused have been renovated to become trendy little drinking holes. One of the latest editions to the small bar scene is the cleverly named 55ml, which is located in an unused warehouse on 55 Mill Street. Owned and run by Seamus and Seira, this dynamic duo have created a lovely space that combines industrial decor with fresh greenery.
As you would expect from a small bar, the focus is on drinks with beers available from Coopers Brewery, Lobethal Bierhaus and other local brewers. They also have a selection of local and international wines with quality being the deciding factor in what is available. Of course, if it’s too early to drink, customers can grab a coffee supplied by Dawn Patrol Coffee Roasters or choose from a range of snacks, light lunches or platters.
On the menu today was a hearty Chicken Soup. Full of chunky vegetables and shredded chicken pieces, the soup was light and full of flavour. Perfect for those Winter months!
They also have a choice of two toasties. The one pictured below is the Artichoke Heart and Goats Cheese Toastie. Smothered with generous amounts of soft, delicate goats cheese, it worked perfectly with the fresh, crisp rocket.
Last but not least was dessert. Flourless Chocolate Cake was on the menu today and it did not disappoint! The exterior was firm and chewy, and the cake was soft and moist. It wasn’t overly sweet but definitely rich and decadent.
It’s nice to see the alleyways around the Gouger Street cafe precinct become more vibrant. With the opening of 55ml, people will have yet another place to hangout, whether it be during the day or late at night. The owners are super friendly and the space is just a great place to relax.
If you’re in the area, make sure you pay 55ml a visit!
