Movenpick

Movenpick originally started in Switzerland back in 1948, and at one point, only supplied ice cream to restaurants. In 2003, the international rights were bought by Nestle, and their ice cream is now sold in more than 30 countries worldwide. With already 21 stores in the eastern states, Movenpick has slowly made its way to Adelaide, and it’s store can found on the corner of Leigh and Hindley Streets.

Movenpick is one of the few ice cream manufacturers that I’m aware of, that has a no artificial colours or additives policy. Their menu indicates there are 17 ice cream flavours to choose from, but I’m sure I saw many more at the front counter. On top of that, they have everything that you would expect in a dessert bar, that is, shakes, smoothies, sorbets, waffles, pancakes, fondants, fondue, pavlova and macaroons.

Entrance to the store is off Leigh Street and the dining space is to the left as you enter, and can easily seat 50 people. Located on a nice corner position, there is plenty of natural light flowing through it’s large windows.

Today, I had their classic Caramelita ice cream. The ice cream was so soft and delicate, and the chewy bits of caramel mixed in were absolutely heavenly. It tasted so good, you’ll be begging for more.

The staff were friendly and courteous, and the atmosphere was relaxed. A single scoop of ice cream will set you back $4.95, but in this case, it was free as part of their opening promotion.

If their Caramelita ice cream is anything to go by, I look forward to trying more of what they have to offer.

WHERE: 6 Leigh St, Adelaide
