The Annex Cafe

The Annex Cafe is located on Waterloo Street, a side street just off Jetty Road. At first glance, this quaint little cafe seems fairly similar to all the other cafes in the area, but the constant flow of customers suggests they’re doing something right. While this place is well known for their great coffee, I was here for a bite to eat. They have a small basic breakfast menu, some lunch options in the form of wraps and rolls, and a selection of sweets.

There’s nothing much to this cafe in terms of decor. There are a couple of tables inside and outside, and because of their limited number, it’s partly one of the reasons why it’s hard to get a seat.

For lunch, I ordered the Smoked Salmon Bagel. The meal came out after a 10 minute wait and was everything that I had expected. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, salad, horseradish cream and capers. A classic ingredient combination that you really can’t get wrong.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. The bagel set me back $11 which was a fair price. Their breakfast options start at $5, wraps $10 and their sweets $4.50.

Nothing outstanding in terms of food, but I hear their coffee is great.
