Still in the mood for some noodles, I paid the Noodle Box store in Glenelg a visit. Unlike their nearby competitor, this particular franchise only has 8 stores in Adelaide. The menu offerings are fewer, but there’s still a fusion of Asian cuisines. There are a total of 17 noodle dishes available in small or regular size. If noodles aren’t your fancy, they also have a small selection of fried rice and yum cha dishes.
This particular store is larger than their nearby competitor with extra seats out at the front and more seats in the rear courtyard. The bi-fold doors that open up at the front of the store allow good light and ventilation.
Today, I ordered the Pad Thai. The dish was ready 10 minutes after ordering and was average in presentation, mainly because it came in disposable cardboard bowl. The noodles were well cooked but were very oily. The chicken was tender and succulent, and provided in generous amounts. The bean sprouts and peanuts added a nice crunchy texture. The flavours were off as too much soy sauce was applied, and the dish should have had a more reddish tinge.
The Pad Thai here was slightly better than their nearby competitor. Pricewise, they were a little bit more expensive coming in at $9.95 for a small serve, however, they didn’t scrimp on the ingredients. Once again, I’d be getting the Pad Thai from one of the nearby Thai restaurants. Not only would the dish be more authentic, it’d actually be cheaper as well.
