A place that sells gluten free and vegan products? Sounds expensive! Cherry Darlings Bakehouse is located right near a tram stop in Forestville and is Adelaide’s first cruelty free bakery. The food available is pretty much behind the counter with a selection of savoury and sweet products on offer. They also do coffees, teas, milkshakes and sundaes.

The store is very quaint and cosy with a distinguishably candy striped counter. With kitchenware along one main wall and slogans and advertisements on the other it tells a story about vegan baked goods. Lighting isn’t too much of an issue with plenty of natural light flowing through it’s frontage.

For lunch, I ordered the Roast Vegetable Pie. The pasty was nice and flaky, and the vegetable filling was soft and delicate. The vegetables were a little on the bland side, but if it doesn’t taste good, it must be healthy right?

For dessert, I had the Pretzel Caramel Cupcake. The pretzel was a little soft than anticipated but the cupcake was spot on. The sponge cake was soft and moist, and the generous layer of icing was subtle in sweetness.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The food was brought out to me and the cutlery without even asking. The atmosphere was relaxed and it seems to be very popular with the locals in the area. As far as pricing goes, the pie was $5 and the cupcake was $4, which were both reasonable. The pie itself was average and the cupcake above average.
This place just screams healthiness. Well worth checking out.
