Cow & Co

With the weather steadily warming up, it would easy to visit your local ice creamery for something cold to cool you down. For those that are looking for a healthier alternative, there’s froyo (frozen yoghurt). Having only ever been to one other froyo store, I was keen to see what Cow & Co had to offer.

Cow & Co are located at the northern end of King William Street and have been around for a year. Their main seller is their froyo which is made fresh daily using local natural ingredients. Of course if you’re looking for something a bit more wholesome, they have a small range of salads, wraps, piadinas and rye sandwiches. Their beverages aren’t anything to sneeze at either, with a full selection of coffees, smoothies, lassi, fruit juices and teas.

The froyo here is self serve with six flavours to choose from (these flavours change weekly). Customers take a cup from the left hand back corner of the room and fill up their containers full of yoghurt. To the right, there is a counter full of toppings with a whopping 30 items to choose from. The health conscious can select from a range of freshly cut fruit, nuts, berries, coconut, muesli and other organic goodies. Of course, if you’re not watching you weight, there’s an assortment of chocolate based items and lollies that you can add to your froyo. The cup is taken to the counter and then weighed where all yoghurts are charged at $3 per 100 grams. A full container is roughly 400 grams.

Having tried all the delicious froyos on offer, I narrowed it down to my two favourites, the Vegan Chocolate and Apple Pie. I then topped off the froyo with their assorted fruit boppers, which were very similar to what you get in a bubble tea drink.

Both froyos were smooth, velvety, dense and creamy. The Apple Pie froyo had the natural sweetness from cinnamon and stewed apple, while the Vegan Chocolate was rich but without being too sweet. The boppers released a refreshing burst of fruity flavours which complemented the yoghurt well.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the products on offer. The service is good and the place has a relaxed casual vibe. With the warm Summer months ahead of us, I will no doubt be visiting this place more often.
