Lisa’s Rolls King

Lisa’s Rolls King replaces what was once a Cherry Blossom sushi store. With sushi, hot egg rolls, cold rolls, rice dishes, noodles and dumplings, the offerings are a bit better than your hole in the wall sushi store. This place has gone one better by offering a small selection of Vietnamese rolls.

The decor at this place is neat and well presented. While it’s not a particularly large place, there are several seats both inside and out for customers that wish to dine in. The store does have a nice corner position with plenty of natural light flowing through it’s dual frontage.

For lunch, I ordered a Vietnamese Roast Pork Roll. As they were preparing it, I was shocked to see them heat up the roast pork in the microwave. Not only was the pork soggy, fatty and bland, there were small inedible bones in the meat. The skin was soft, it was like it had been cooked in a casserole. The pork tasted disgusting and I had to take every morsel out of the roll.

The pickled carrot was sweet and tangy, and the coriander was fresh and crisp. The cucumber added a nice crunchy texture, while the chilli packed a bit of heat. The inclusion of lettuce and mayonnaise only further added to the disappointment in what was a dark day for the Vietnamese Roll. The bread roll was nice and crusty, and with the roast pork taken out, it didn’t taste too bad.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing is fairly reasonable. The cost my Roast Pork Roll was a little higher than average at $6.50, but having said that, the most expensive item on their menu is just under $13.

The Roast Pork Roll was undoubtedly the worst that I’ve ever had. I will never order a Vietnamese Roll from a non-Vietnamese eatery again. Doing so will only set you up for disappointment.

I literally was JUST about to walk out the door to drive down to Glenelg and try the VR’s at this place. Haha. I run a Facebook page dedicated to recommending and discussing the best VR places in Adelaide, and I was excited when I drove past this place a month or so ago because there isn’t many VR shops down South. Think I may give it a miss for now. Nothing annoys me more than when the meat is heated in the microwave and lettuce is thrown in (Hove Deli comes to mind, lol). I prefer a place like Nhu Lan on Hanson Rd, they’ll cut the pork fresh right in front of you, letting you listen to the crackle crunch as your mouth waters. Lol.

    Thanks for the good review!
