J Sushi

I remember a time when there were few sushi stores in Adelaide and people were still becoming accustomed to Japanese food. These days, sushi is the health food of choice and you’re bound to find a store on a main road or inside a shopping complex

The local sushi store at the beginning of O’Connell Street as you head out of the city is J Sushi. This quaint little store is a bit more than your typical hole in the wall sushi store. Apart from the sushi offerings, they also sell rice dishes, udon noodles, bento boxes and Japanese fried noodles.

The decor is neat and well pressented, and similar to other sushi stores. There’s seating for about a dozen, and there’s plenty of natural light that flows through it’s frontage which gives this place a casual relaxed vibe.

For lunch, I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Rice which was available for an amazing price of $4.90. The menu indicates that their hot meals are ready within 7 minutes of ordering and indeed it was. The meal was nicely presented in a plastic bowl which was sitting on top of a plastic tray. The serving size was fairly decent and enough to satisfy most appetites.

The teriyaki chicken was slightly over cooked and could have done with a bit more salt. The carrot added a nice crunchy texture and the generous serving of rice was perfectly cooked with nice individual grains.

The staff were friendly and the service was fast and efficient. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was reasonable. My meal was under $5 which is a bargain price. The presentation was nice and the serving was decent, however, the meal wasn’t great. Everything else on their menu is reasonably priced with their most expensive menu item being just under the $14 mark.
