I wonder if there is a correlation between the number of fish and chips shops and the distance to the beach. As you drive down Grange Road, the closer you get to the beach, the more of these types of establishments there are. One of these places is Fulham Fish & Chicken which is 1.4km from Grange Beach. I can think of 3 other fish and chip shops as you head westerly.
Open 6 days a week, Fulham Fish & Chicken serve up your typical fish and chip/chicken shop fare. They have spit roast chickens, salads, fish and chips, steak sandwiches and yiros. The food is made fresh everyday and there is a focus on providing quality food and great customer service.
As with most local fish and chip shops, there wasn’t much by the way of seating. I counted 9 seats outside and none on the inside. Parking was easy though with several individual parking bays and plenty of off street areas.
For lunch, I ordered the Fish and Chips which were ready after a 10 minute wait. While some places still wrap their fish and chips in paper, the use of a paper box and bag are slowly becoming the packaging of choice. The obvious benefit is that your meal doesn’t get squashed, and the meal is actually allowed to breathe, thus preventing it from becoming soggy.
The fish was a decent size and it was fried to a nice golden brown. The batter was firm and crisp, while the flesh was soft and delicate. The chips were cooked to perfection; nice and crunchy on the outside, with a soft and fluffy interior. The serving size of chips was more than generous with enough to feed two.
The staff were friendly and the service was good. The pricing was reasonable with my meal costing me $9.90. The pricing on all their other items is pretty much on par with their nearby competitors, although some of their combination deals represent good value.
