Donut King has been fattening the population since 1981 and has over 320 stores across the country. Over that time, people’s tastes have evolved, and so has their menu. They now have a wider range of snack options which includes healthy smoothies and low fat ice cream and milkshakes. They also have fruit freezes and coffees, but if you’re looking for something a bit more substantial, there’s a range of gourmet hot dogs.

Today, I’m here to check out some of their donuts. The first thing that I notice is the sweet aroma and nice yeasty flavour that comes from the donuts. All the flavours are inside the dough, and the frosting and flavourings are complementary. The texture is nice and fluffy with a beautiful chew as you bite into them. The cinnamon and the frosting aren’t sickeningly sweet, although the strawberry does remind me of cough medicine.

The staff are friendly and the service is fast and efficient. Today, I ordered 6 small donuts which set me back $7. Their normal sized donuts are around the $3 mark which is average these days. Their donuts aren’t light and airy like Krispy Kreme, but they’re not too bad either. At least there’s no waiting in line at this store.
