Hyde Park Pizza Bar

Hyde Park Pizza Bar is located at the beginning of King William Road as you head out of the city. I’ve been meaning to try this place for quite some time, but with very few seats inside, it always struck me as a place where you’d order take away. When Menulog decided to shout my friends and I dinner for using their service, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to order food from them. For the purposes of this review, I will be critiquing them on the speed at which the food was delivered and the quality of the dishes ordered.

The food was pre-ordered online earlier in the day for delivery at 6pm. With normal traffic conditions, the pizza bar is a 5 minute drive from my house. At precisely 6:03pm, a friendly delivery driver greeted me at my door with the food. The food arrived before the guests, so that gave me time to plate and photograph all the food.

I must admit I was surprised to find decent slices of Garlic Bread as part of the meal. Typical pizza places use those long skinny hot dog rolls that are vertically sliced and wrapped in aluminium foil. The Garlic Bread that I had would be how I make it at home. Thick slices of bread that are spread with butter, garlic and parsley, and then toasted on both sides.

The Pizza Herb Bread had a nice thin crust that was baked to a light golden brown. The amount of herbs applied was quite generous. By the time it arrived at my doorstep, the bread was a bit firm and the taste was bland. I think it’s one of those dishes that you need to eat when comes straight out of the oven.

The Chicken Wings were tender and succulent, and were drowning in a sticky sauce that had a subtle sweetness. It was very similar to a plum sauce but not too over powering.

The Pork Ribs were a good size and were smothered in a barbecue sauce that wasn’t overly sweet. The meat was tender and succulent, and simply fell off the bone. I thought some of the ribs were a little on the fatty side.

All the pizzas ordered had a nice thin crust that was consistent throughout. I’d say the toppings on each one was considerably generous.

Mamma’s Pizza is topped with bocconcini, sundried tomatoes, proscuitto, artichokes and fresh basil. One of my favourite pizzas with gourmet ingredients. The sweetness of the sundried tomatoes was balanced by the saltiness of the proscuitto.

Tandoori Chicken Pizza is topped with tandoori chicken, Spanish onion, mango chutney, sour cream and parsley. This particular pizza was my favourite out of all of them. The chicken was well marinated, tender and succulent, and the ingredient combination has been proven to work time and time again.

Giardino’s Delight Pizza is topped with roast pumpkin, roast capsicum, potatoes, olives and basil. This one was the vegetarian pizza with a good selection of gourmet toppings. The sweetness from the pumpkin and capsicum was balanced by the saltiness of the olives.

Italiano Pizza is topped with Italian sausage, olives, anchovies, roast capsicum, fresh tomato and basil. The saltiness of the olives and anchovies was balanced by the sweetness of the capsicum and tomato. Not my favourite pizza out of the lot, but it wasn’t too bad.

Pollo Royale Pizza is topped with char grilled chicken, Spanish onion, lemon thyme, baby sweetcorn and basil. I’d have to say this was my least favourite pizza. For some reason the zestiness of the lemon thyme coupled with the sweetness of the Spanish onion and baby sweetcorn just didn’t sit right with me. I think it’s a matter of personal taste as to whether you like this pizza.

Super Supreme Pizza is topped with ham, pineapple, mushroom, capsicum, bacon, prawns, salami and onion. Can you really go wrong when you order a pizza with the lot? For me, it’s like the safe option when you don’t like anything else. It was really good with well distributed toppings.

For food that was cooked and then delivered to my door, it was pretty good. The pizzas had a consistently thin crust, and the toppings were of a premium quality and generously applied. Even the sides weren’t too bad.

I certainly wouldn’t hesitate in getting take away from them again.
