Orange Spot Bakery are located towards the end of Anzac Highway in Glenelg. Known for their award winning pasties, this bakery is incredibly popular. While I was there, most of the seats were taken and there was a line 10 people deep. With more awards than a Hollywood film festival, you can be sure that they’re doing something right.

This bakery is fairly spacious with roughly three quarters of the floor space dedicated to seating. The arched passageways are usually a sign of Spanish influences, but the designer of the place could have just liked arches.

For lunch, I had one of their pasties. The pasty took 10 minutes to come to my table after ordering. I’m not sure why it took that long. The pasties were already cooked and all you had to do was put them on a plate.
The pasty itself is larger than your mass produced version. The pastry was light and airy with a beautiful golden brown exterior. The filling was rather generous with potatoes, carrot, onion and mince clearly visible. The vegetables were nicely flavoured and perfectly cooked. The filling was soft and delicate which is the way it should be.

The staff were friendly and the service was kind of slow. The atmosphere was relaxed and the pricing was slightly on the high side. The Pasty set me back $5.40 which is a lot more than what I would usually pay. Given they’ve won awards for their pasties, I guess they can dictate the price. Having said that, the pasty was one of the best I’ve ever had.

The Orange Spot seated area used to be an Italian restaurant, which probably accounts for the arches.
That explains it!
